History
The Abyss was always a cave system — deep, cold, and unmapped even by the Second Kindred, who left warning-glyphs at its mouth rather than survey it further. The Sundering reached even that far down, and what answered from the dark afterward was the Soul Devourer, a thing the old glyphs seem to have been warning about long before the sky ever cracked. Adventurers who've gone deepest report the caves get quieter, not louder, the closer you get to it — as if the abyss itself is listening back.
